On April 2nd, Andy and Tom from Elite Physical Medicine visited Oxford Brookes University to deliver a seminar to the Physiotherapy BSc and MSc cohorts on the use of diagnostic ultrasound in clinical practice, commonly referred to as Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS).

During the session, they provided an overview of the physics behind ultrasound imaging, discussed its practical benefits in musculoskeletal (MSK) assessment, and explored common MSK pathologies through specific case studies. The seminar featured a live demonstration from Andy and Tom, offering students a “hands on” experience in scanning techniques. Following the demonstration, students had the opportunity to refine their own skills by practicing scans on their peers.

The level of engagement and insightful questions from the students was excellent, making for a highly interactive and enjoyable session. Elite Physical Medicine has a strong relationship with Oxford Brookes University, regularly hosting students for academic placements and having recruited several of their graduates into the team.

A big thank you to Dan Garnett and his colleagues at Oxford Brookes for their support in organising the event. Andy and Tom would also like to extend their best wishes to the students as they approach their final exams and assignments.
